setting the stage

As I was doing my devos last night, I had a mini-revelation.  Of all the people in the world to announce the birth of Christ, the angels came to the shepherds.  They were the  "blue-collar" worker of the day, if you will.  How appropriate that the Son of God, who would later call tax collectors and fishermen his friends, had his birth announced to shepherds.  The government officials didn't get any official notice, nor did the Pharisees.  How very interesting.....
