That's what I'm talkin' about!

Sin. Yesterday, Pastor Phil preached out of Romans 6. The keynote verse was Romans 6:18:
You have been set free from sin and have become slaves to righteousness.
He talked about how when the Emancipation Proclamation was put into law, many slaves in the South didn't know what it meant for them and even if it applied to them. He made the same point with Christians. We have been freed from sin, but we can't necessarily digest what that means.

He also talked about the fact that when we sin, most of the time we find that the value of our sinning is greater than the value of not-sinning. Interesting way to look at it, eh?

While we will always have a propensity to sin because of our human nature, we don't have to give in each and every time. We have to train ourselves so that when we consider the option to sin, we turn the flesh aside and defer to the Spirit. And it's not something that will happen overnight. Pursuing holiness is a journey that takes some time. But I think that it's well worth the effort.
