The verse on my mind

At midnight last night, I found myself meditating on this passage from Psalm 27.13-14
I am still confident of this:
I will see the goodness of the LORD
in the land of the living.
Wait for the LORD;
be strong and take heart
and wait for the LORD.
I was having a hard time getting to sleep, which should have been expected considering the serious thinking I attempted to do before slumber. I know better than that, but I was feeling rather quizical last night.

Not to go into too great a detail, but it was in regards to a friend that I have lost contact with. I would very much like to reopen communications with them, but I have had very little(read: no) success so far. And it frustrates me on occasion. Last night was one of those occasions. And so I got out of bed and pulled out my prayer journal (which I don't do often enough) and wrote a prayer. And then I decided to open up the Bible to Psalm 27, in which David talks about trusting God. I went the extra step and wrote down the last two verses of the passage on an index card which now sits in my car.

There are very few guarantees in this world. I don't know if my friend will ever talk to me again. But I have to trust that God is working in this situation and working ALL things for His good. Even though that's painful for me right now.

Free things available tomorrow

Dunkin Donuts is giving away free iced coffee (if you're into that sort of thing).  Also, McDonalds is plugging their new southern-syle chicken biscuit and sandwich by giving away a biscuit or sandwich with any medium or large drink purchase.

Other free things available tomorrow:  air, sunshine, smiles and laughter.

Rumble, Rumble, Rumble

Hear that?

There's a change in the air.

Today, several major Christian professors and theologians released The Evangelical Manifesto.  It is a call to take back the term "evangelical" from it's comfy seat at the table of politics.  I haven't gotten a chance to read it yet (it's 20 pages), but I plan to in the next day or so.  If you're interested, take a look at it, and maybe we can dialogue on it next week.

Cheers!

Eating local

Three posts in two days!! What's goin' on here???

I wanted to take a second to highlight a pretty cool website. The name of the website is Local Harvest. What it is, is a listing of various local farmers who sell those goods to the general public through various means.

A friend and I used to have conversations about Wal-Mart and what it was doing to the local home-grown, mom and pop retail establishments. I found the Mart quite agreeable with my relatively thin wallet, and thus didn't really have any problem shopping there. And I still don't. However, what I buy there has changed. Right now, the Mart serves as a hardware/music/electronics/auto supply/cleaning supply store. And some dry foodstuffs that are priced the best. But for the meat in my diet, I've started looking to local folks. One of my favorite places to go is the West Shore Farmer's Market. There's a poultry counter there (I think it's called Leidy's) and they have a great chicken sausage with peppers and onions. One of the Weaver's has great turkey sausage. I enjoy being able to support the locals who make a good product. And because the majority of this stuff is fresh, there's not a lot of preservatives to worry about.

If you do nothing else today, follow the link and key in your zip code to see what options are available in your area. You don't have to patronize them (though it would be great if you did), just make yourself aware of their existence.
