Things I did today

1. Went running. Outside. It was 15 degrees. Brrr.
2. Went to two different farmer's markets. Bought sun-dried tomato and basil turkey sausage at the first one. Also purchased a super-delish peanut butter pastry from Harner's. Bought more sweets (oatmeal whoopie pie and raw sugar cane) at the second.
3. That's right, raw sugar cane. It looks like this. I'm not sure what to do with it.
4. Ate some Mexican food
5. Did a load of laundry (running stuff)
6. Cooked up the aforementioned turkey sausage for a little pasta bake.
7. Watched Sleepless in Seattle.
8. Typed this entry

Goals for the new year.

Most of you are aware that I'm not a big believer in resolutions, but that I like to focus on goals. I've decided on a couple of goals for this year:

1. Improve my foreign language skills.
2. Work harder at loving people more.
3. Improve my cooking skills.
4. Learn how to make homemade bagels (working with dough scares me, so this will help me get beyond that).
5. Travel more.

What's in my bowl

I've just finished off a container of quick oats and I wanted to share my most recent discovery.

I've taken to adding cinnamon and honey to my oatmeal. And then, adding Wilbur's chocolate buds. And behold, it was good.

So if you're looking for a way to spice up your oats in the morning.....

I even wrote him a letter...

Jim Zorn has been fired as the head coach of the Washington Redskins. This makes me sad. Because I liked the Z-Man. A lot. A man of faith, he wore his faith on his sleeve. Week in and week out, he was cool, calm and collected. Even while the losses continued to mount, he kept a level head. He was nothing but poised and truthful in his dealings with the media. Sure, he was unpolished and couldn't get the team's colors straight when he was hired, but he was a good guy.

The week before his last game as head coach, I wrote him a letter. I hadn't written a letter to anybody involved in professional sports since I asked Terry Porter to autograph a basketball card for me many, many years ago. But I wrote Coach Zorn a letter, thanking him for staying "medium" and for walking the walk. I told him that I prayed for him and that I hoped the best for him.

I've become a fan of the Z-Man and I'll be rooting for him in his future endeavors.
