What do you do with your leftovers?

Here's what I did.

I went off of a recipe by Danny Boone for something called Bubble and Squeak.

What I did was mix mashed potatoes with corn and turkey. I threw in a couple tablespoons of butter and mixed it all together. In the meantime, I heated a skillet with some canola oil. I formed the potato/corn.turkey/butter into patties and dusted them with flour. Put them in the skillet and cook until browned on both sides. Serve with leftover gravy.

If I were to do it again in the future, I would probably used some milk and maybe some shredded cheese. That would be mmmm, mmmm good.

You can see the original recipe here.

How to celebrate your birthday.

Reason #29:

Some friends and I headed out to Hershey's Chocolate World over the weekend. They were kind enough to grant me a birthday wish that involved trying all sorts of fun desserts. We took a gander at all the goodies at the Scharfenberger Cafe (this may or may not be the actual name of the place we ate at) and decided on: Peanut Butter Pie, a Dark Chocolate Brownie, Dark Chocolate Mousse, Peanut Butter Chocolate Pastry and a Dark Chocolate Raspberry Pastry. That's the goodies up above. There were three of us, so we split up each dessert into three pieces and we tried them all. It was all good, but the Raspberry Pastry stood out to me as the best. And to be honest, we couldn't even make it to the brownie, which we had left for last. We ended up cutting it into the three pieces and then taking them home for the next day.

What do you think?

How do you feel about churches trying to attract people to their individual buildings? And then how would you feel about churches trying to attract the President-Elect? Take a look at this article about the contest currently taking place in DC.

What's a concierge?

I'm working on the answer to that question. But said concierge has a lounge where it has free alchohol, mixed nuts and desserts. And this computer that I'm typing on. Too bad I don't have anything I need to print out. I'm on the seventh floor here. Come stop by and say hi. I wish I had my camera.

This was definitely an unexpected blessing. Now if I could only get them to open up the pool.......

The one where I go to the opera

Tonight I went to the opera. There is a local opera company called Center Stage Opera. They put on a performance of La Boheme.

Having never been to an opera before, I only knew that all the dialogue was sung. What I didn't know that it would all be sung in Italian. That was new and different. However, they summarized each act in English before the act began, so you at least had some idea what was going on. I was also suprised to see the vocalists being accompanied by a 17-piece orchestra. I'm not sure what I was expecting, but it was definitely not that.

I thought the performance was great. True, I really didn't understand a word they said, but the vocalists definitely knew how to sing and they did a great job acting. And I thought the orchestra did a top-notch job on musical end of things.

So I think I'd consider going again. I'd be much more interested if they sung in English. Do they have English Opera? Or is that called a musical? Anywho, there weren't a lot of people in attendance, which is unfortunate, but hopefully the word will get out. Keep an eye on their schedule for next year and see if there's anything that you'd be interested in.

Psalm 118:25

This verse was on my mind this morning* and I thought I'd pass it on. Feel free to read the entire chapter here (it's worth your time).
This is the day the LORD has made;
let us rejoice and be glad in it.
*Please note that this verse will also be applicable tomorrow as well.

Taste of Central PA

Today, some friends and I went to the Taste of Central Pennsylvania. The "Taste" is an annual fundraiser for the Central Pennsylvania Food Bank. If you've never been, here's the set-up: The food bank gets a bunch of food vendors (45 this year) to offer samples of their cuisine/products to attendees. Regular joes can pay $25 to spend two hours or so grazing on all the food. High rollers can pony up some extra change to get in early and some champagne to drink.

This was my first time going and there was a lot of good food there. There was some pork tenderloin stuffed with apples and figs, chocolate chip cheesecake, chicken masala, chili, taquitos, etc....... Good stuff. Here's a pic of the action from the upstairs.
